Photo-a-day: Day 5

jackets
(...when you spend all day watching anime, the pictures you take might not be that interesting)

Workout jackets! Old, current, and new (maybe--I ordered two with the intention of only keeping the one I like best, but the other one isn't here yet. The other one is the same color, but fleecy on the inside, and has a hood and thumb holes in the sleeves). The pink one on the left is a couple of years old, and is kind of hilariously big on me now; to be honest I thought I'd gotten rid of it, but I was looking for something to wear last night because the orange one was wet (from being washed). I actually like the orange one I'm using now, but since I've discovered the magic of the odorless merino wool, I can no longer stand how smelly it gets after being worn even once, hence the new (very expensive!) one. I have my eye on a bunch of other wool stuff, too, just waiting for my November budget. How have I lived this long without merino wool in my life??

The problem with workout clothes this time of year is that I have to choose between short sleeves and a shirt with a jacket over it. Because I have long-sleeved shirts, but they don't have pockets, and I need a pocket to put my phone in. Okay, I do have an armband, but I really hate using it, and anyway it slips around like crazy when it's over a sleeve. So I need pockets. It's hard, being a slave to technology, but my phone tracks speed, distance, and (when I'm doing intervals) tells me when to walk and when to run. I wonder if the Apple Watch will be able to live without its phone partner for long enough to solve this problem? Because that would make it super sexy to me.

Meanwhile, when I got down on the floor to take the jacket picture, Wednesday was like, "What's going on? We're getting on the floor? Yay, I love when we're on the floor!" If you look, you can actually see her foot in the picture in the main post.

Was she getting brushed earlier? I think I see a kitty brush hiding behind her tail.

Holy cow. You have GOT to wait until that one arrives before making your decision. It sounds incredible. I want it! THUMB HOLES.

That would be the sexiest tech ever. I would buy first generation (and I hate to buy Apple 1st gen products) if that were true.

No, she was sleeping in her chair and came over to see why I was on the floor. (Me being on the floor is VERY exciting.) The brush just lives there (um, at least, it does when Mom isn't home to care that I've left the brush on the floor).

I also really, really want the thumb holes, but I have two reservations about the fleecy version: that the hood will be annoying while running and/or wearing it under something else, and that reviews say this style runs a little small. I actually was going to order both a medium and a large, but the large was out of stock and I didn't want it to hold up my order (haha). So if I love it but the medium is too small, I'll have to figure out what to do.

I actually really like the one that's here already, and basically just wish it was fleecy on the inside and had thumb holes. Well, the other one is supposed to get here today (if FedEx will leave it without a signature), so I'll be able to compare soon, I hope.

???

This must be some weird fashion term that I'm not grasping. All of my sleeves, even the longest ones for winter, don't go beyond my wrists. They aren't anywhere near my thumbs. What are the holes for?

I could see thumb holes in gloves...but sleeves?

You've never had shirt sleeves that got pushed up when you put another shirt over it? Thumb holes will keep that from happening. Also, they're really cozy and nice, almost like fingerless gloves. And...this is not the point, but, really, you don't have any sleeves that go past your wrists? I guess I like my sleeves really long, but I think they're too short if they stop before my wrists. (3/4 length sleeves need to die.)

A quick google image search for "thumb holes" will show you what they look like.

I wear long-sleeved turtlenecks a lot in the winter. (It's part of my uniform, so five days a week, minimum.) I just hold onto the wrists with my four fingers when I put the top layer on, then let go and tug the sleeves into place. I've never seen any with holes.

And...this is not the point, but, really, you don't have any sleeves that go past your wrists?

Not one. They all end at the wrists. I suppose if I bought something in a size too big for me they might be longer, but why would I do that?

Mmm, now you're making me want merino wool. (So far, I'm managing to get by with my favorite sweatshirt... I'm only walking, after all.) What are your favorite online sources?

So far, my stuff (except one pair of socks) has been Ibex (http://shop.ibex.com/), and I've loved all of it. I've got my eye on Smartwool (http://www.smartwool.com/) next. Also, Darn Tough (http://darntough.com/) for more socks.
