Photo-a-day: Day 6

twisty vine

The scent of fresh grapes is one of my favorite parts of fall. By this time of year, the grapes have been harvested and the vines are drying up, but there are always a few grapes left behind, so on a warm, sunny day like yesterday, you can still smell them. (I ate a grape while I was taking pictures, and they taste as good as they smell!)

Kitties love sunbeams!

I love kitties who love sunbeams. She doesn't even look like she notices she is boxless. (Also, cutest nose.)

That is a great autumn photo. As Sara noted, you really have a good eye. Was this on a walk or by the road? (I, however, do not like the smell of wine country in fall. Very pungent.)

Wednesday actually does not love boxes. (Well, she likes to rub her cheeks on the corners, but she doesn't care about going in them.) She'd rather be all spread out.

There are vineyards all along the road that runs behind my house. While on my bike ride, I noticed the scent of grapes (which I had thought was long gone) and figured I'd stop to take a picture.

I, however, do not like the smell of wine country in fall.

*gasp* This makes me so sad. Are there too many vineyards around? Can you smell the fermenting from the wineries? Do California grapes just not smell as good as Michigan grapes?

Exactly. The smell of fermenting wine is everywhere in Napa/Sonoma in the autumn. I had no idea you lived so close to viticulture!

Since I live by vineyards, not wineries, I get all of the fresh grape smell and none of the fermenting. It's much more pleasant!

I live in a town that has an annual Wine and Harvest Festival, so...yeah.

Wonderful picture! You would think I would know what grapes smell like as I have grape vines right outside my porch window, but I kind of don't? I think my sense of smell is seriously deficient.

Either that, or I'm not out on the porch by the time the grapes ripen in fall.

No way. You would have to have NO sense of smell to not notice grapes. I'm sure you have a different variety than these and they don't have that wine grape smell. I mean, it's not like the ones you buy in the supermarket smell amazing.

I wish the squirrels left me some grapes. <sigh>
