So, this just happened:

- Go to Amazon to buy book for professor.
- Add book to cart.
- There are now three items in my cart. Huh?
- Check cart. See this:

lamas

...Yeah, the college is probably not going to reimburse me for Tiger & Bunny alpacas.

(I put these in my cart like a month ago, but I haven't bought them yet because I keep spending too much money on doujinshi.)

I'm not quite done with Dual Destinies, the new Phoenix Wright game (I finished the main story, but there's a bonus case I haven't finished yet), but I'm going to go ahead and call it amazing. I enjoyed Apollo's game but never felt the same love for it that I did for the first three. This one is right up there with those, though. It's awesome to get to play as Phoenix again, and I really liked Athena, the new lawyer character. Fairly early in the game, something happens to keep Apollo from using his (horrible) power, which made me laugh really hard because I know that was pretty universally loathed. (You do end up using it a couple of times, but it's not too bad.) Athena's power is way less annoying. But most importantly: EDGEWORTH. It's not an Ace Attorney game without Edgeworth, so writers, thank you thank you thank you for bringing him back.

(It's hard to tell in the screencap above, but yes, that guy is on a Segway. The whole scene was amazing. I only wish the picture included the epic BGM.)

In other news, I'm having more frustrations with Amazon.jp and their nonsensical shipping policies. However, I am going to be strong and not cancel my order of Love Stage Blu-rays to put individual discs in separate manga orders, because the price on them has gone up ¥500 (each) since I placed the original orders. I'll have to wait until January to get my BRs, but since I just watched the show, I'll live. I'm more annoyed with myself for putting the Yokozawa movie in that order (especially since it WAS in a different order). That one has only gone up ¥300, so I may cancel just that. Which would also require canceling my current manga order and placing it again. Ugh, Amazon, why are you such a pain??

On a more positive note, I've been reading about how amazing merino wool is, so I ordered an Ibex undershirt to wear while walking/running in the evening, since it's getting quite cool here. It really is amazingly warm for being so thin, and did not smell at all after I was done with my workout. I went ahead and ordered a Buff (because I noticed my neck got cold yesterday) and a pair of Darn Tough socks to try those out as well. (If I like those, I have my eye on a heavier pair for skiing this winter.) I would also like to get a pair of leggings, but I'm trying to decide if I want the heavier weight or the same as my shirt. (Also, should I get a heavier weight shirt?) Also also, it's October 1st and I now have $14.39 left for clothes in my October budget.

I did a mini-purge this weekend, of bags and electronics. Found an old cell phone (and MD player, haha) to be recycled, and decided to sell my old iPod. It took some hunting to find a cord that would charge it, but I finally got it powered up and it works just fine. I was expecting it to be full of stuff that was 10 years old--I forgot I still used it for a while after I got my first iPhone. I think I'm going to miss the click wheel (something soothing about navigating that way), but I don't see myself using it anymore, so off to Gazelle it goes. Also considered selling my shuffle (which I have pretty much stopped using since I started doing interval running, because I need my phone to keep track of the time), but it's so tiny it's not really taking up any space, and I would be lucky to get $10 for it, so I think I'll keep that for now. We'll see, I guess.

...I just checked for the heck of it, and there's a music player app (Twitunes!) that has click wheel navigation. I'm actually considering downloading it. Not sure it would be the same without the physical buttons. Agh, I just read an article mourning the loss of the click wheel. No! I hadn't used this device in years! No regrets!!

7/30 ひとりじめマイヒーロー 3 限定版B きせかえシール+小冊子付き  ありい めめこ

Happy birthday, Denise! For your present, you get to buy the same book twice.

In other news: Gakkou no Sensei is running again in Dear+, yay! So now I don't have to hate the non-ending of volume 8. (Dear+ is my favorite thing right now. I'm honestly sad it only comes out once a month. I wonder if there will ever be a weekly BL magazine?)

Since Taiyousha finally(?) posted their release list for December manga, I feel like my shopping list is in pretty good shape, so... here it is. Obviously I will continue to add (and hopefully remove!) titles as we get closer to the trip, but let's call this version 1.0 (officially out of beta testing).

1. Due to my pact with [livejournal.com profile] mangaroo, I can't reveal the meaning behind my color-coding system. I might give some hints if you ask real nice and promise not to guess which color might be out of print titles.

2. I have way (waaaaaay) too much shoujo on my list, so I'm officially soliciting opinions on which series are the best to buy.

3. This was me trying to make my list shorter...?? orz I definitely have some trimming to do.

A couple weeks ago, when I was on my way home from work, a semi in front of me threw a retread. I didn't have time to react, so I ran over it.

Obligatory Kickstarter crying: I'm pretty sure I'm going to back Fleet. (Crab meeples!!! why am I so excited about this what is wrong with me also I really need to get Agricola. I don't even care what the game is like, I just need the animeeples.) I think I might need an intervention. Not only is my August budget in shambles, but I did my September budget today and wanted to cry. It's a good thing I go back to working full time next week, but dang, October seems a long way off right now.

The battery on my laptop is not charging. It works fine when plugged in, but I can't take it away from a power source. I did some google research, and I guess it's either a bum battery or bum connection to the battery. A new battery is ~$120. Not sure how much fixing the connection would be, but posts I saw on the topic suggested it's best to go with a flat "refurbish" rate, which means for ~$250, Apple will just replace any parts on the laptop (logic board, battery, etc) that need it.

However, my laptop is going on five years old, so I'm wondering if I should pay to have it fixed, or just replace it? I'm eyeing a refurbished MacBook Pro for $1200 that's looking pretty attractive right now.

The problem with either option is that my current "new computer fund" is a whopping $0.00. (I just knew that was going to bite me in the butt soon.) Either way I'm going to be stuck with my bum laptop for a while, so I guess I'll have some time to consider my options, but I'm curious what others would do in my position.

After a couple of expensive trips to California, I wildly over-budgeted for my trip to CT/NY, hoping to be able to put the extra money towards a savings goal (like a new laptop, because I'm increasingly nervous about my aging Macbook). Instead, I find it's all being spent on new games?

1. Dominion (big box + base cards) - at least I had a gift certificate at Amazon to make this more affordable.

(Everything else is Kickstarter, because there is something about the combination of exclusive extras and limited time frame that is murder on my willpower.)

2. Incredible Expeditions - OMG EVERYBODY BUY THIS I WANT ALL THE STRETCH GOALS. There are still a couple of slots open for the early bird price! Also, another early bird slot will open up later when I switch to whatever fancy version they are apparently going to post soon.

3. Templar - I hope this game is fun, but to be honest, I only care about it because I can get the anniversary edition of Alhambra as an add-on. Wooden fountains!

4. Freedom - stupid lantern *facepalm*

If I have any money left over after this nonsense, I'm trying to decide whether I want to grab Lords of Waterdeep or Among the Stars. Though I guess I might as well wait, because I'm assuming we're going to play a LOT of Dominion for a while. In the meantime, I'm cutting myself off from looking at new things on Kickstarter. [livejournal.com profile] spacealien_vamp, I'm counting on you to let me know if there are any amazing new games I shouldn't miss out on.

Comment seen elsewhere: I can't believe a TV show made me that excited over someone drawing a clock.

This is extremely accurate.

Also, for posterity: this is my new favorite thing ever.

What a freaking emotional roller coaster:

"Yes, Will is drawing a clock for Alana!" :D

"Nooooo, Hannibal has a fake clock!" D:

"Will realizes he's being framed!" :D

"Agh, Jack thinks it's just a paranoid delusion!" D:

Veal is people, obviously, but...is veal Abigail? Oh god, it was totally Abigail, wasn't it. D:

(Speaking of Abigail, did Will throw up the ear? Or did he throw up when he saw the ear in the sink? I need to watch that scene again. Because seriously, I know Hannibal is a murder wizard and all [I'm totally picturing him with a paint brush, painting blood under Will's fingernails], but COME ON.)

Another thing bugging me: the fishing lures - has Hannibal been saving body part bits to use in fishing lures, or has he been planting body part bits in fishing lures all along? We saw him tying a lure pretty early in the season, so I guess the latter, but...what if Will had noticed?

(...I want to be like FISHING LURES ARE PEOPLE, WHY, but to be honest after the episode where violins were people I don't think anything can surprise me anymore. It's more like, of course fishing lures are people, what else would they be?)

ETA: Yes, Will definitely threw up the ear. I like how Bryan Fuller was asked about how Hannibal would get the ear in Will, and the answer was basically "he's a murder wizard." (Murder wizard, devil, same thing.) Also: my friends need to watch this show so they know what I'm talking about when I call someone a clock faker, because that is clearly the best insult ever.

Also, Gillian Anderson is amazing and I hope her part is bigger next season. The show certainly seems to be setting her up for something big. (And probably terrible.)

In other news:

1.
not the right tools for the job

My mom posted this to her Facebook with the caption "Jack's going to need a bigger saw." Luckily for him, the professionals are coming today to get rid of the tree (or start? not sure how much they can do in one day).

ETA: Mom just texted me this picture of our very, very sad garden. Pretty much nothing survived. :(

2. Kickstarter is evil and I wonder how much money I can afford to pledge to this campaign? Because I want, like, everything but the wine glasses (I think the wine glasses are sort of ugly). Until this moment, I never knew how desperately I needed to drink out of lab equipment.
wednesday_10_00: (bookcat)
For whatever reason, this weekend I decided to finally update my manga database (which I somehow haven't done since before the Japan 2011 trip). Of course, in order to do so, I had to haul all the books out of whatever temporary nooks and crannies I had shoved them into.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] maachaq and her family were in the country and came by to visit yesterday, which was fun (though her kids are more rowdy than I'm used to, haha), and...I think she might have convinced me to finally get on Facebook. Which sort of feels like crossing over to the Dark Side, but so many people in my family are on it, I've been thinking about it for a while.

wednesday_10_00: (chizuru - panic!)
bk1 is being swallowed up into some (e-book?) site called "honto." It looks like they are still going to accept international orders (if you have placed an international order before--wait, what?), but there's nothing about shipping policies, so who knows if they will still offer SAL shipping or not. (Maybe we should panic about that one.)

Gah. GAH.
wednesday_10_00: (zuko - dork)

^ The current arrangement of my Sekaiichi Hatsukoi DVDs. Setting aside my annoyance that they labeled the episode 12.5 DVD cover "volume 12.5" (instead of 6.5, like it should be), I'm fussing over the extras discs. (The ones currently between 2-1 and Spirited Away, not volumes 0 and 6.5 12.5, which are staying where they are.) Should they go

1. [series 1] [series 1 extras] [series 2] [series 2 extras]
2. [series 1] [series 2] [all extras]
3. just move the damn extras off the shelf
4. something else

...?

(Yes, I seriously think about these things.)

(More importantly, I'm sad that the second series looks like it's not coming with any extra manga booklets. I wonder what kind of pressure Nakamura is under to churn out as much manga as possible. Almost makes me feel guilty for wishing she would write more Takano/Ritsu already. Almost.)

I hate Amazon, film at 11 )
wednesday_10_00: (...)
but have bought anyway stupid TRSI sale:

* Yuu Yuu Hakusho Blu-ray bundle - 64.99
* R.O.D. complete Blu-ray set - 99.98
* Special A, set 2 - 5.99
* Yawara collection 1 - 34.99
* Kobato bundle - 37.99
* [thing which is a present for somebody who is probably not reading this, but I won't say what it is, just in case] - 12.99

also, from Amazon [insert long, boring tale of woe here]:
Special A, set 1 - 18.39 + 2.98 shipping

(also the third set of Utena, but I knew that was coming and had budgeted for it, so it doesn't count but if you WERE going to count that, and the next disc of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, it would be another $120)

total damage to December budget: 278.30

(My favorite part of that is the 12.99 present. $265 for me, $13 for you! I am a terrible person.)

In my defense, though, the retail price for all this is over seven hundred dollars (714.78 to be precise), and I did actually manage to restrain myself from buying everything I wanted, so...it could have been worse?

oh god my poor budget orz
