wednesday_10_00: (bookcat)
I managed to get the living room straightened up last night, so today I'll take a break and then get to work on the mess in my bedroom tomorrow. This week has been really long and tiring, ugh. (OK, the living room still has a pile of boxes--because I'll need some of them for packing up books--and my sorted VHS tapes, but it's all out of the way and organized, and it's not like I burned a hole in the carpet or something, so I'm sure my parents won't mind.)

I brought some (shounen and shoujo) manga to work to put on the "free books" shelf that we have out in the hall. When I was sorting through my (BL) magazines, I found two duplicates (why??), so I brought those into work to throw into the recycling with a bunch of other papers. Some really thoughtful recycling worker pulled them out and put them on the free shelf yesterday, so this morning I noticed and threw them back in the recycling. Jeez, everybody I work with knows those books are mine, let's not mix the porn in, OK?

Now at least I know it's NOT safe to bring to work the BL manga I'm planning on getting rid of. I wish our recycling center in town would take paper, but they only accept newspaper and phone books, so I have to find someplace else to dump my books. Recycling porn is complicated.

I have this non-geek friend from high school that I'm trying to keep in touch with, but I totally suck at it because I don't know what to SAY to her. I mean, in her last message to me she wrote:

What do you do in your free time these days?

Well, let's see! I just got a big shipment of manga the other day and I'm really enjoying reading them. I know you're not into manga, but the stories are really great! My most recent shipment is mostly stories that are totally full of hot guys doing it. I mean, not that I read them for the sex! Actually, sometimes I wish there weren't so many sex scenes. It's a refreshing change when the characters don't do more than kiss. (I do like the kisses, though! Can't get enough of that.)

Also, a friend got me into this show called Avatar. Well, I know it's a cartoon and you never liked any TV other than Sex and the City, but I'm sure you won't mind if I go on about how great it is, right? See, there's this one character I'm totally in love with...I mean, I'm not in love in love, I'm not crazy! I understand that he's a 16-year-old boy and not real, it's just, you know, he's just SO totally adorable and he's got this really great uncle and his character is is so complex and well-developed.

Not that cartoons are the only thing I watch! I've also been watching a show called Psych, which is a really fun detective kind of show. There's a lot of really witty dialogue, plus the main characters are straight guys who act like an old married couple, so I really enjoy pretending they're gay.

I'm sure you would also like to hear about my cats! I have two of them, you know, plus the two my parents have (you didn't forget that I live with my parents, did you? I sure hope not!), so I am just FULL of funny stories that I'm sure you'll love to hear about! Like, this morning, I was reading (one of my gay manga, of course!) just before I left for work, and right when I got to the last page of the chapter, Choco got on my lap! I felt so bad for not staying there and keeping her warm that I carried her in to the bed she's made out of a folded-up comforter in our spare room. It's so cute the way she's adopted that comforter! She gets cold in the winter, so she sleeps in between the layers.

Of course, it's not like I just sit around my house all the time I'm not at work! I go out for dinner and shopping once a week with a good friend. Last week, we found this really neat store at the mall where I bought a Nendoroid (that's a kind of figure that you can put different parts on so you can have different poses and facial expressions) of L, my favorite character from the manga Death Note. Only they didn't have a Light figure (he's the other main character), so now I'll have to hunt around Yahoo Japan Auctions for one of those. The Light figure comes with handcuffs so you can chain them together. That's hot!

...And so on. So after I've racked my brains for something NOT fannish (or cat related, because in addition to not being a fangirl, she's also not an animal person) to say to her, I give up and write something like "not much new in my life right now." Then I think, Well, it's stupid to write an e-mail where I don't SAY anything, so I put it off until I have something interesting to say, which of course I never do, so I end up going months without writing, and then feel all guilty and like a crappy friend. orz

Maybe I should just start making shit up. "Well, last week I took up rock climbing. It's a lot of fun so far! Of course, since I live in southern Michigan, one of the challenges is finding the rocks, but I'm sure that will make it all the more rewarding when I make it to the top!"
