DO NOT READ

I think I said this when I was reading KusaKyo, but: one thing BL is really lacking in is the slowly developed relationship. I mean, in BL, we're lucky to get a relationship that takes ONE volume to develop, let alone several, which means maybe I need to read more shoujo manga, because in shoujo manga we DO get some slow developing relationships, and I've discovered that NOTHING tugs at my heart strings more than a couple that takes (TOTALLY HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE!!!) nine volumes just to HUG. (And OH MY GOD, that scene totally made me cry. Just a hug! Though at least part of that may have been because it was late at night. 90% of the time a book makes me cry, it's because I stayed up too late reading.)

Also!

COULD THEY BE ANY MORE RETARDED OH EM GEE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I found this way more adorable than if they'd actually kissed there. They totally made out off-screen, though, I mean:

You can't tell me that Chiaki doesn't have the look of someone who was just interrupted. Okay, maybe they were just snuggling, I don't know. Either way, it was enough to make Nodame and me pass out on the floor.

I just can't even tell you how much this manga makes me squee, it is so ridiculous. Like, every time Chiaki thinks about Nodame (or listens to her play the piano) and gets that stupid blushy look on his face. And then I pretty much died when they walked down the streets of Paris holding hands. HOLDING HANDS! Apparently that is all it takes to turn me into a puddle of goo on the floor, who knew.

...As long as I'm posting embarrassing tales of moe, this is from the latest issue of Ciel:

ZUKO'S GEEK HAIR! PLUS GEEK GLASSES!!!!! If moe could be lethal, I would not be here right now to make this post. Because I would be dead. RIP Denise. She died with a smile on her face.

lkjsd;lkfjds ;lkjfsdl;k *froth*

Too bad the story is stupid and makes no sense. BUT WHO CARES DEATH BY MOEEEEEE *choke gasp* orz

I...I'm just going to go lie down for a bit, excuse me.

Oops, read it anyway.

What is that second BL series? I like that geeky look- it reminds me of Taiki from Sailor Moon, though. XD Which is okay because I love Taiki.

Ummm... *checks* It's called Sensei, Ano ne! but it's not a series (at least not yet), it's just a one-shot that was in the most recent issue of Ciel magazine. The main character is unbearably adorable, but the story is SO STUPID. Oh well...

I won't read if you don't want me to, but I have to come by to say: ICON LOVE.

Also, your geek love might be rubbing off on me. But I sort of feel like I only love the IDEA of geek love, which then sort of makes me a geek love poser? But I'm already a nerd anyway, so... gah, I'd better just stop here.

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe this is just torture, but there are lots more where that one came from (http://iconzicons.livejournal.com/184719.html), too.

But I sort of feel like I only love the IDEA of geek love, which then sort of makes me a geek love poser?

The type of character I am attracted to does not necessarily have anything to do with the kind of person I am attracted to in real life (romantically or otherwise). So honestly, I don't think it really matters or makes you a poser.

I love Nodame! I started out watching the TV-drama, and my boyfriend is totally hooked on the manga so we're collecting it. But I haven't been able to order any new manga in what feels like forever, so we're stuck at volume 10.

Btw, you might enjoy Gakuen Alice. It's nothing like Nodame of course, but I recently caught up with the series up to volume 16 and it's really amazing! The character developments have been great and I'm completely hooked on the story myself. It has a couple of romantic moments as well. I had pretty much the same reaction to Gakuen Alice that you had to Nodame in your post above. ^^

I've only watched a little bit of the drama, but it seemed really funny. I'm planning on watching the rest of it after I catch up on the manga and anime. (So much Nodame, so little time!). Personally, I like the manga best (the anime leaves out a lot...), but it's fun to watch/listen to the characters, too, so I think all the versions have their own merits.

I actually tried reading Gakuen Alice when I was in Japan, but it didn't really do anything for me...I may give it another try, though; sometimes I'm just seem to not be in the mood for a certain type of story, but I love it when I go back and read it a second time.

I think Juri Ueno is amazing as Nodame in the drama. The guy who played Chiaki was pretty good as well, and nice to look at.^^ The drama apparently handles some parts slightly different than the manga, so I look forward to reading the rest of the manga.

Gakuen Alice is sort of a slow starter, but it gets better and better, I promise. It mixes fun stuff with darker storylines really well once it gets going. How far did you read?

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-20 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, the first thing I thought about the drama was that I was glad they got someone so cute to play Chiaki. XD I'm not surprised they changed things--one reason I didn't watch any of the drama before I got the rest of the manga was I wasn't sure if they would change the order of certain events and I didn't want to spoil myself. Now I look forward to watching it...though I will probably watch the second season of the anime first. >.> (So much to watch, so little time!)

I can't remember how much of Gakuen Alice I read, to be honest. Probably only a couple volumes. I wish I could remember if I kept them or not, but I don't think I did...I guess it can go on my shopping list for Japan.

You've just done more to convince me that I need to read Nodame Cantabile than the entire rest of the world combined!

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I do highly recommend it, but it's, uh, not as focused on romance as this post might make it sound. Partly because Nodame and Chiaki are the stupidest, most awkward couple ever (they are both so focused on music that their relationship is about a lot more than just romance anyway), and partly because the advancement of their studies/careers (and the people they study/work with) is a big part of the story, also.

[identity profile] manga-crow.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I love how Chiaki and Nodame are both so completely dysfunctional, yet so completely opposite in their dysfunction that when they're together they (almost) manage to make two functioning people :p

It may be one of the most understated, subtle romances around, but all the more heartwarming in it's few moments of genuine affection.

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-20 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well put. They compliment each other so well, even in their dysfunction. XD

one thing BL is really lacking in is the slowly developed relationship.

Some BL series take it slow.

You can't fool me, though. If all of them took several volumes, you'd be demanding "Where are the smoochies?!"

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
True, I didn't mean that it was lacking ENTIRELY, just that there needs to be more of it. And you're right that I don't want it all the time, just...it seems like it is so rare to find a good slow developing relationship. (But maybe I like it better because it's rare?) Instant gratification has its place, don't get me wrong, but even if I might complain about it sometimes (*cough*Flesh&Blood*cough*), waiting does usually make the payoff seem more worth it.

OMG I LOVE Natsumizu Ritsu!! <33 XXDDDD *dies of MOE along with you*

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have a favorite of hers? I like her art a lot, but this story didn't exactly make me want to run out and buy everything she's ever written. >.>

[identity profile] don-amoeba.livejournal.com 2009-04-20 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
LOL is that so? XD Most of her stories that I know (and like) are one-shots, I think "Toorinuke dekimasen" is adorable, and also "Tenkiame, Gogo Ichiji". i know what you mean, I don't necessarily like her plots either, but the situation and the characters make me go all MOE at times. XDD
