OK, seriously: 21 books. No characters in the history of ever have taken this long to have sex. (Excluding the ones who never do, obviously.) But...maybe it was worth it? No, I'm not sure about that. Oh, so many frustrations to get to this point! But still, I'm glad she devoted basically the whole book to it. I mean the love scene itself was maybe 1/4 of the book (which is nothing to sneeze at!), but there was also the setup and aftermath, so all told, it was basically the entire book (basically just have toignore skim try not to fall asleep during get through the Vicente chapters).
I honestly had sort of given up on this happening until the end of the series, after the notes at the end of 20 saying that she felt like she needed to Kaito and Geoffrey lots of time in that book to be lovey-dovey because the big battle with Spain was coming up. But then when I got 21, the obi said "nobody will interrupt their third night together!" Yay! But...wait, "third"? Really? We're counting that time when Kaito was dying of TB and was all, "hey, we could do it if you're careful and don't kiss me!"? Kaito, that was not your finest moment. I'm gonna go ahead and call that your worst idea ever, and that includes running away and getting captured by Vicente.
Ummm....I had a point here. I think it was "this book is awesome"? Because it is awesome. Highly satisfying. And I say that not just because the sex scene exists, but because it was a very, very nice sex scene.
(Very nice.)
Other stray thoughts:
This just came out, but I'm already anxious for the next one. *gasp* I love this series again! Yay!

Other stray thoughts:
- Kaito seducing Geoffrey is maybe the cutest thing ever. I really wanted to give him a kick in the pants when he wasn't going to go along with it. (Thank goodness I could tell from the pictures that he was going to change his mind, or I would have been SO MAD.)
- Geoffrey has the BL-est PTSD ever. I mean: he sleeps fine (as long as Kaito is there), and doesn't have any kind of anger or mood problems...he's just impotent, that is, until he eats some figs and Kaito shows some interest in having sex.
- What's the deal with Kaito saying that coffee is something couples drink the morning after having sex for the first time? Is that a British thing? Because on this side of the pond, we just drink coffee every day. (If it was a Japanese thing, surely that would have come up in some BL manga, right? I can't remember ever seeing it.)
- Nigel knows right away, because of course he does.
- I seriously think I never want to read Nigel's POV again for the rest of the series. "I'll love Kaito forever, and I'm miserable, but I want my friends to be happy, I'm such a martyr blah blah blah--" Look, Nigel, I love you, but seriously, give it a rest and get with Kit. We'll all be much happier.
- When Vicente said goodbye to Alonso (Look, I paid attention to something in Vicente's chapter!), I was suddenly worried that Alonso was going to die in battle. Dangit. I sort of don't want anybody to die in the upcoming battle, except maybe Raul because ughhhhh so bored of him.
- Speaking of Raul...he's evil but he wants Spain to lose, so...conflicted? The happy outcome of the battle is England wins but Raul's plot is somehow foiled anyway? (What about the guys from Spain that we actually like? It's going to be a bittersweet victory, I guess.) To be honest, I get so bored when Raul comes on screen lately that I'm not even sure what his plot IS, exactly (other than Spain needs to lose), so I don't even know if that's possible. I guess his plot is foiled if he dies, though, and they'll totally let Juan get his revenge, right?
This just came out, but I'm already anxious for the next one. *gasp* I love this series again! Yay!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 01:05 am (UTC)(link)I listened to the drama cd, it's like you said, Kazuya really is creepy about his feels towards Kaito...

Ahhh...I haven't kept up with the drama CDs, but yeah, I can imagine. I really wish everyone in this series wasn't so in love with Kaito, but...oh well.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)Ah I know what you mean, some of their thoughts about Kaito are just so...
Is the story progressing in a good light now though? Also I'm sorry for bothering you!

I really enjoyed the arc with Kaito going back to 21st century, and then getting back to the past/rescuing Geoffrey, but starting with volume 22 it looks like it's going to focus on the war with Spain, and I'm kinda not into that. I hope I'll enjoy it once I actually get back into reading it, though.
(It's just hard right now because Haikyuu kind of ate my brain and I'm having trouble caring much about anything that's not sports anime, haha.)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 12:17 am (UTC)(link)Kaito certainly worked hard to get back to the 21st Century! There's one part that I didn't really understood from the Drama CD, why did Kaito say that Geoffrey is supposed to die?
Hopefully the war doesn't last too long, would be a drag if it's like 5 books long about the war that I'm pretty sure the readers are really into. I really like how Kaito matures as each book progresses though!
Ah I understand how you feel since when I first started Haikyuu I ended up really into it too (Back then the was no Anime so there weren't much fans to talk about the series with)

(I'm honestly not sure where the author is going with the discrepancies and whatnot and it kinda doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.)
Agreed that Kaito maturing is one of the best parts of the series. He's really grown up a lot and it's pretty awesome.
Haikyuu is awesome! I'm sorry not many people were into it when you were; there's a pretty active fandom on tumblr now. (And probably it will get more popular with the 2nd anime season this fall...)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-25 12:29 am (UTC)(link)He's maturing at a really fast pace and probably because we see him growing each book that the fans get attached to him and like him. Although I kind of get annoyed by him whenever he goes that he's sorry that he's hurting people because he chose Geoffrey, etc.
It probably will grow since Kuroko No Basuke's anime is ending those that want to watch sports anime would most likely would head to Haikyuu!! I hope the recent chapter will finally show an end to the current tie match Karasuno is having now.

I think (hope?) next week's Haikyuu chapter will be the end of the current set, but seeing as how it's a five set match, I think the match won't end for a while, sadly.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-26 01:54 am (UTC)(link)The recent HQ!! chapter I think it's still a tie? But it focuses on Tsukki. I hope they start the next set soon!!

Ah....yeah, I haven't read that chapter (though I did see some spoilers for it). I subscribe to the digital version of Shounen Jump, which (sadly) means I see chapters almost a week after everyone who's just reading scans online. (The speed and prevalence of Chinese scanlations causes me no end of annoyance, since I can't read a word of Chinese.)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-27 10:38 am (UTC)(link)Ah I see. The Chinese scans do come up real quickly so I tend to read them first before English. My Chinese reading skills are decent enough to understand the important parts but often there are some words I can't read. XD;;;
