March manga

Nagi wears a "K" necklace. Because Nagi is subtle, you guys.

Seiya - Ueda Kiyo (heh)
1. A baker (pastry chef) and the salaryman who loves his cakes (and him).
2. Stepbrothers who are in love but either won't admit it or don't realize.

The first one is completely adorable (even if it's kinda stupid that a guy would run away while his boyfriend is in the shower because he's nervous about having sex). The second one is...eh. I'd like the characters, but they spent too much of the story acting like morons, and I really wanted there to be more after they finally got together. (So adorable when they coo over their new baby sister!)

Rakuda-tsukai to Ouji no Yoru - Ogawa Chise (sweh...)
A poor camel...camel herder? what's the camel equivalent to shepherd?...anyway, he saves a man in the middle of the desert, and it turns out the man is super rich and wants to repay camel boy, so he whisks him away to his oasis paradise.

So, I really enjoyed the title story and other long story that made up 3/4 of this book, but...the other two short stories are AWFUL. I laughed when the author said in her notes at the end that she considers the first one to have a happy ending. Really? Okay, then. IF you can forget/ignore those stories, this is a good book, but...yeah. The prince/camel herder one is just so darn adorable, though! I really wish the whole book had been about them. It's sad that even with the best friend camel dying--which I saw coming a MILLION miles away, it's STILL about a thousand percent happier than the two awful stories. Which I'm forgetting about. Yes. Instead I will think about camel boy being all Disney Princess and talking to the animals, because awwwww.

Boku wa Subete o Shitteiru 3 - Takaku Shouko (meh)
Wakura, Wakura, Wakura....for most of this book, I thought Wakura was super cute and wanted him to hurry up and get his own love interest (because seriously, barking up the wrong tree with Ayumi). A few months ago, in a conversation about characters and possible (random) character traits, [livejournal.com profile] spacealien_vamp mentioned, as an example, that a clumsy surgeon would be silly, and my reaction was: wait, a clumsy surgeon would be adorable. (He's not incompetent, see, he just has to work extra hard to make sure he doesn't screw up, and he has a serious inferiority complex, but his boyfriend knows how hard he works and really admires him for it and....) And not that Wakura is clumsy, per se, but he's still learning and thus not up to the level of the other doctor characters in the story, and something about him inspired the same sort of want-to-give-him-a-hug moe in me. But then he had to go and do something that really pissed me off (and Kanazawa, you did not come off much better in that scene). Still, omg, Wakura and his glass heart!

I might forgive him for being a jerk (maybe it was like Kai, he was possessed by aliens?), depending on how things go from here.

As for the Kaga/Kanazawa (or is it Kanazawa/Kaga?) story, I could not be more bored by it. Though I did actually feel some sympathy for Kaga when he got sick of hearing about how amazing Saikawa is, because seriously. Guys, he's not that amazing.

Koi wa Kakechigai - Suyama Toriko (sweh)
This is just a short story collection, but I really enjoyed it. Maybe mostly the first one, with the super-awkward Akimoto. Though...I mean, I get nervous about talking to new people, so I understand wanting to avoid that, but what kind of virgin thinks sex is going to be easier?

Also, we can add Suyama Toriko to the list of authors who write BL stories about two guys who actually identify as gay. (It's a short list.) Also also, for some reason I find the back cover really adorable.

10 Count 1 - Takarai Rihito (sweh!!!!)
[Did I get enough exclamation points on that? Probably not. Imagine a few more.]

Shirotani (who has a severe case of OCD) reaches the breaking point with his disorder when he hesitates in saving his boss because he can't stand touching people. The man who happens to save his boss, though, Kurose, also happens to be a counselor, and offers to help Shirotani get over his fears. The plan is this: Shirotani writes out a list (numbered from 1 to 10) of the things he can't do (i.e. hold the hand strap on a train), and then they'll go through the list and Shirotani will try to do them. Why is Kurose doing this for someone he just met? Well, he'll tell us Shirotani that once Shirotani reveals what his #10 ("There's no way I can ever do this") list item is.

I swear, Takarai Rihito is just going into my brain and picking my favorite stuff when she plans a story. Could I love this any more? Maybe if there were a cat or two hanging around. Beware the cliffhanger, though, it's a bad one. (Shirotani needs a hug! But he would hate it! ;_;) Thank goodness I've been buying Dear+ so I could read the next couple of chapters right away. Only I'm still all OMG GIVE ME THE NEXT CHAPTER OR I'LL DIE right now. I can't die, because I need to know what Shirotani's #10 is! ...I might need help.

What's the Nagi picture from? 'cause OMG, must have.

need to know what Shirotani's #10 is!

I don't know what 2-9 are, but it seems likely this one's going to be kissing or sex, unless they're already on the list.

The Nagi picture is from a new story running in Be x Boy (FINALLY, after years of Okumura/OtherKei). Actually, 10 Count has been a welcome distraction from the fact that the next chapter of that won't come out until May. (I hate waiting my life is so harrrrrrd)

it seems likely this one's going to be kissing or sex

That's what I assumed at first, but the further into the story I get, the more I think it's something else. On the other hand, if it's not kissing/sex, I have no idea what it might be, so...yeah, I dunno.

(I hate waiting my life is so harrrrrrd)

Maybe you shouldn't subscribe to Shounen Jump Alpha, after all. Waiting from Monday to Monday lately has been TORTURE OMG.

Thank you for the reviews! I am not doing well with the backlog at all (irony time: too much time spent studying Japanese) but it is always good to have more recs.

Nagiiiiiii

Waiting from Monday to Monday lately has been TORTURE OMG.

Posting this reminded me that if I'm REALLY willing to cheat, Wednesday comes before Monday. (don't ask) Today is Wednesday.

Chapter 744 OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG WHY DO I NOT HAVE A BIGGER FONT AND MORE EXCLAMATION POINTS OMG

[My cats don't even run from the room when I shriek and clap and laugh like a hyena any more. They are so jaded. Zoro just gave me a look like "I am trying to SLEEP here human, please pipe down."]

re: cats - did I ever tell the story about the time I was reading One Piece and I don't even remember what happened in the story, but I yelled "Chopper!" and Choco was sitting right there so she sat up and meowed like I had said her name.

I tell this story to distract myself from being bitter about not being able to read 744 for months.

[identity profile] sara-tanaquil.livejournal.com 2014-04-10 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My bad. :-( I'll try to stop emoting One Piece at you. (Unless my secret plan to get you to subscribe to SJ Alpha is working, in which case I'll emote more.)

LOL Chopper-Choco!

Aww, I didn't mean to make you feel bad, I was just joking.

I dunno about subscribing to another magazine. I mean, I know it's virtual and all, but...eh. It's still not free.

[identity profile] sara-tanaquil.livejournal.com 2014-04-10 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good then! I was thinking it was really unfair of me to come flail at you about OP in your own journal where you can't get away from it. ^_^;;

Well, at least I am managing to live without the BL magazine subscriptions right now. (How long will that last, I wonder?) I hope you get that Dear+ order right on time!

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2014-04-10 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Location of a comment doesn't really matter to me, I guess--I always see it in email anyway, so if it's a reply to me, there is no "getting away from" it--not that I want to get away from the comments of my friends.

You can flail at me as much as you like about OP as long as you promise to read 10 Count when you get it and also flail about that with me. ^_~

Ha, then I can be the one suffering while waiting for the next volume. (As long as it's not on a Seven Days release schedule! What was that, a three year gap?)

[identity profile] wednesday-10-00.livejournal.com 2014-04-10 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is running in a monthly magazine, so it should be a bit faster than Seven Days. Thank goodness I didn't get the first volume of that when it first came out.

I just bought 10 Count and it is SUPERB. :DDD I'm so glad someone feels the same <3333

I think it's my favorite new thing in a LONG time. I saw that Takarai Rihito said on Twitter that it would be at least three volumes, so I'm really looking forward to seeing where she goes with it.
