on legal matters, etc.

greatest witness of all time

I'm not quite done with Dual Destinies, the new Phoenix Wright game (I finished the main story, but there's a bonus case I haven't finished yet), but I'm going to go ahead and call it amazing. I enjoyed Apollo's game but never felt the same love for it that I did for the first three. This one is right up there with those, though. It's awesome to get to play as Phoenix again, and I really liked Athena, the new lawyer character. Fairly early in the game, something happens to keep Apollo from using his (horrible) power, which made me laugh really hard because I know that was pretty universally loathed. (You do end up using it a couple of times, but it's not too bad.) Athena's power is way less annoying. But most importantly: EDGEWORTH. It's not an Ace Attorney game without Edgeworth, so writers, thank you thank you thank you for bringing him back.

(It's hard to tell in the screencap above, but yes, that guy is on a Segway. The whole scene was amazing. I only wish the picture included the epic BGM.)

youkai
This just cracked me up. Now, let's get slashy:

date
It was really nice to be able to go back and see all the dialogue from any given scene. This is Phoenix and Edgeworth, totally not talking about going on a date in the middle of a trial.

emotions

totally married
Seriously, you guys. I get that you're married, but this is embarrassing behavior for professionals in a courtroom.

disgusted apollo
This might be my favorite Apollo moment ever. After Athena squeezes her way in behind the defense bench, he just stands there with this annoyed look on his face for this entire conversation.

boss
(This is for [livejournal.com profile] mangaroo.)

totally not a sharknado reference
I will never know how the localization writers work these pop culture references in.

...Anyway, the game was awesome, and looked beautiful on my iPad. My next game is going to be Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, and I'm almost sorry to be playing on the 3DS again.

In other news, I'm having more frustrations with Amazon.jp and their nonsensical shipping policies. However, I am going to be strong and not cancel my order of Love Stage Blu-rays to put individual discs in separate manga orders, because the price on them has gone up ¥500 (each) since I placed the original orders. I'll have to wait until January to get my BRs, but since I just watched the show, I'll live. I'm more annoyed with myself for putting the Yokozawa movie in that order (especially since it WAS in a different order). That one has only gone up ¥300, so I may cancel just that. Which would also require canceling my current manga order and placing it again. Ugh, Amazon, why are you such a pain??

On a more positive note, I've been reading about how amazing merino wool is, so I ordered an Ibex undershirt to wear while walking/running in the evening, since it's getting quite cool here. It really is amazingly warm for being so thin, and did not smell at all after I was done with my workout. I went ahead and ordered a Buff (because I noticed my neck got cold yesterday) and a pair of Darn Tough socks to try those out as well. (If I like those, I have my eye on a heavier pair for skiing this winter.) I would also like to get a pair of leggings, but I'm trying to decide if I want the heavier weight or the same as my shirt. (Also, should I get a heavier weight shirt?) Also also, it's October 1st and I now have $14.39 left for clothes in my October budget.

I did a mini-purge this weekend, of bags and electronics. Found an old cell phone (and MD player, haha) to be recycled, and decided to sell my old iPod. It took some hunting to find a cord that would charge it, but I finally got it powered up and it works just fine. I was expecting it to be full of stuff that was 10 years old--I forgot I still used it for a while after I got my first iPhone. I think I'm going to miss the click wheel (something soothing about navigating that way), but I don't see myself using it anymore, so off to Gazelle it goes. Also considered selling my shuffle (which I have pretty much stopped using since I started doing interval running, because I need my phone to keep track of the time), but it's so tiny it's not really taking up any space, and I would be lucky to get $10 for it, so I think I'll keep that for now. We'll see, I guess.

...I just checked for the heck of it, and there's a music player app (Twitunes!) that has click wheel navigation. I'm actually considering downloading it. Not sure it would be the same without the physical buttons. Agh, I just read an article mourning the loss of the click wheel. No! I hadn't used this device in years! No regrets!!

Gotta hit McDonald's. They have Streetpass relays, so you can get 3 (or 6, some have two relays). That's basically the only place I ever get them besides from Meredith and Jim. (I got ONE from someone on campus, once.)

Thanks for the McDonald's tip! I'll have to try that... too bad I'm supposed to be barred from McDonald's for the duration of the DietBet. :-( [I have no self control when I get near those fries.]

So, having now played through the third case (I've just barely started the fourth), I am going to say that the best thing in Dual Destinies so far is Taka the hawk. I start cracking up every time I look at his prison-striped scarf/bib/what-the-hell-is-that-thing-anyway. At one point, when Blackquill was thumping on the desk, the bird went all bug eyed. And when it sits on the judge's head! I wish I knew how to take screencaps on the 3DS.

The second best part of the third case was the random stuff that kept popping up on the blackboard behind the professor. "What's wrong with a not guilty verdict, anyway?"

ETA: I found an icon! (Sorry if I have to edit this twice to get it to show.) The internet is so bountiful.

Oh, you don't have to IN McDonald's. I just park in their parking lot for <5 minutes and then leave. Open your DS and make sure you're either getting an internet signal or it tells you "the Nintendo Zone is available here."

Taka is the best! (I love that he kept Apollo from using his stupid perception thing.) Did he bring Blackquill evidence (on paper) yet? I think that's my favorite. Though him sitting on the judge's head is right up there.

ETA: I discovered that it's only the "quick reply" comments (that is, those on the journal page) that don't let you select icons. So, in my theme, you can click "more options" and then select an icon from there. Kind of a pain, but one step less than editing.

Yes! Also awesome.

Then there are the times he sits on the judge's head and scratches himself.

Thanks for the tip about using "More Options." Definitely better than editing.

Where did you find the icon, by the way? LJ is so dead lately, I feel like I don't know where to look for anything anymore.

I just did a google search for "dual destinies taka" or something like that, and it popped up on the images page.

There weren't many other icons, though. Dead LJ is sad. :-(

Dead LJ is sad.

Truer words were never spoken. ;_;
