re: Pirates 3

Argh, blah, I hated the ending. I'm not a huge fan of Will and Elizabeth (although she did look hot in her pirate king outfit), but they deserved better than that. I think I would have liked it better if at least she had stayed on the sea as a pirate so they could see each other more than once every freaking ten years. I am glad they left things with Jack and Barbossa kind of open, because I'm sure a lot of people (myself included, actually) would like to see a movie with them and the other pirate regulars but not Will and Elizabeth. Also:

1. Barbossa is all kinds of awesome and I nearly died laughing when he actually started the "Dearly beloved..." wedding speech. Is his first name really Hector?

2. The Calypso stuff was weird and kind of lame. (I do like, though, that now her comment from the second movie, when Gibbs and one of the other guys were arguing about whether it was the sea or a woman that Davey Jones was in love with and she said "same thing," now has added meaning.)

3. Norrington's death was stupid and pointless.

3a. No seriously. Why? Just...WHY?

4. I was really glad the writers actually wrote new jokes rather than relying on old ones from the first movie. There was a lot of really good funny stuff.

5. I loved that they tied the waterfall at the end of the world into the one that's in the ride (with the whole "dead men tell no tales" chant in the blackness).

5a. Now I want to go to Disneyland. :(

Overall...I'm not sure how I feel about it. There were a lot of fun moments, but I'm left feeling like the "trilogy" should have just stayed one movie, because the first one was so awesome and perfect. Maybe I'll like this one better once I've seen it again.

ETA: Wait, it actually is a happy ending. (Why didn't they tell us this??) I think I like it better already.

Norrington's death

Now I wish I hadn't read your spoilers. But naturally I assumed there would be a manga report under the cut.

Why am I always spoiling you about people dying?

I assumed there would be a manga report under the cut.

...A manga called "Pirates 3"?

[identity profile] mangaroo.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you insinuating that every lj-cut shouldn't be hiding a manga report? Fie on you, ma'am!

So, are you telling me I shouldn't write about anything but manga?

I also thought that they only could kept seeing each-other for one day each year, but it seems that because she waited for him the curse is broken and Calypso has to find a new Captain for the Flying Dutchman.

Of course there's two things that make people think that she does not have to be loyal to Will, just keep loving and waiting for him: 1. She still looks the same after ten years which leads people to think that she might end up looking for that fountain of youth with Jack. 2. The child looks like a young Johnny Depp and younger than 9 :)

I wonder if they upgraded the ride in Disneyland Paris since I'm going there in less than two weeks :)

I'm quite happy that they made a trilogy. Sure the first movie was incredibly fun, but the second and third gave the story more depth and made me care more for all the characters. Without part 2 and 3 I'd probably have forgotten about the first movie except for Depp's performance.

Ooh, I did notice that she didn't look older, but I didn't connect it to the Foutain of Youth at all. That's a cool theory. I doubt the kid is supposed to be Jack's though...or if he is, I'd be seriously annoyed.

I don't think the Pirates ride in Paris has been updated...they didn't do the one in Tokyo (or California, I think), so I'm pretty sure it was only Florida. But, to be honest, most of the upgraded stuff is kind of dumb, so it's just as well. (Of course, that's always been one of my favorite Disney rides, so I might be a little biased.)

1. Yeah.
2. Yeah x2. (But at least it gave "them" closure.. since they both returned to the sea, so to speak. Together forever and all that jazz.....)
3+3a. FUCKING YEAH.
4. Yeah.
5+5a. Yeah.

Man, it really is like talking to myself. XD

Oh, and as for her not looking older, well.. it *was* the first thing I mentioned after seeing it (and because wouldn't that make us all feel better that they'll get more than a handful of days together for the rest of her lifetime?), but still, I think it's just to do with .. you know.. her age. It'd only been 10 years, she was still young. :P (I don't even look 10 years older than I did 10 years ago, and I'm much older than she is. heh!)

I allllways stay to the end, always.

I think it's just to do with .. you know.. her age.

Yeah, originally I dismissed it as that (+ they were too lazy to do old makeup for a 30 second shot), but the fountain theory would be cool. I like the idea of her going on adventures rather than just sitting around and pining, plus wouldn't it be funny if Jack had to deliver her baby or something? XD

wouldn't that make us all feel better that they'll get more than a handful of days together for the rest of her lifetime?

Did you follow that link I posted? Do it, and (if you don't feel like reading it all), scroll down to 25.

Did you follow that link I posted?

I tried 3 times ... and 3 times it crashed my browser and whole net connect (which sucked a lot). I'll try to remember at work later this week. >_>

Oh weird, I wonder why? It's just LJ...anyway, I'll quote it at you:

"The captain of the Flying Dutchman curse can be broken and that's why Davy Jones was so furious with Calypso. If the captain's true love is waiting for him when he comes ashore after 10 years the spell is broken and he is no longer bound to the ship - he's free to live a normal mortal life on land again. A new captain is chosen to continue the 10 year cycle. When Davy returned to shore after the first 10 years Calypso was not there to meet him. The curse was not broken and he was doomed to remain captain for eternity. SO when Will comes back after the first ten years (since Liz is waiting for him with their son) the spell is broken and Will can join his family for the rest of his life."

...So the green flash at the end (which confused the heck out of me) signified Will's sould coming back to the world of the living. I don't get why they left this stuff out of the final version of the movie. Oh well.

Ooooh. Nice, I'd wondered about the green flash, actually. It didn't fit .... but now it does. *light dawns* /pun?
