Oh dear.
So, this cat has been hanging around our house. For, like, several months. We've tried calling around to the Humane Society, and local vet offices, etc, but nobody seems to be missing such a cat. We tried to deny it as long as possible, but we're all softies and so we started feeding him (or her?) and have made an appointment to take him into the vet for a checkup. Yep, adoption is imminent. Supposedly, we'll be keeping him in the garage at first, but I doubt that will last long. Monique and Choco don't seem to mind him, so hopefully no problems there. (Maybe it will be good for Choco to have someone to play with?) Wednesday doesn't like him (she attacks the door when she sees him outside), but she's downstairs all the time anyway, so I don't think that'll be much of a problem. (Overly optimistic? Who, me?)
My parents want to call him Pumpkin, which is an okay name, I guess, except that they've been calling him Punky for short, which I'm not real fond of. So I'll open the floor here for any name suggestions and commiserations on the extreme catification of our home.

I can't promise anything, but I'll show them the picture on Monday. (It's been a crappy weekend, and I'm currently fighting with Dad for some reason.)

Btw I just realised I managed to miss a few manga pimping entries, so don't mind me if I pop up randomly and start babbling... I bought all 7 volumes of Houkago no Kyoushitsu just based on your review. Haven't read it yet, but I hope I like it. When will I ever learn to stop testing stuff in bulk? ;_;

Late comments are like surprise packages in the mail. XD

Can't you get close enough to peep under the tail?Maybe having another cat in the mix will actually help defuse the Wednesday/Choco hostilities. (I'm over there in Unrealistic Optimism land with you.) Has Monique been around this whole time? Your parents' cat? I don't remember hearing about her before!
You'll get no commiserations from me because I'm JEALOUS. I really want to catify my home more, but with one FIV+ cat, I'm reluctant to bring others into the mix. I've thought of adopting more FIV+ cats, but that kinda feels like looking for heartbreak.
I lack a cat icon, so here's a fish.

Yep. She's our oldest cat...we've had her for about 12 years now, I guess. I should post some pictures. She's pretty, but very snobby. She's the kind of cat who only hangs around because we feed her. XD
Yeah, I can see how that would make things tricky. FIV+ cats can live a long time, right? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, adopting them? Though I guess that would kind of put you in an endless cycle...
How can you not have a cat icon? I think you need to remedy this immediately.

My cat of a few years ago came down with FIV after I moved to NC (another reason to hate this place), and when I eventually found out, I was told he would not live more than 6 more months. He went on to live 3+ more years. He died at age 20. They expected him to die of kidney failure before the FIV, but in the end it was a tumor of some kind. He didn't have it his whole life, but, even in an elderly state he did hang on incredibly. I suspect it just depends, kind of like with people. :( My 2nd cat at the time never did contract FIV from him (miracle of miracles) but because of the FIV possibility, was unable to adopt again until the first died and the second was on his way... :(
I think it's really noble to adopt ill cats (and as one can see, sometimes they do live quite a while), but they do get expensive when symptoms present, and it's pretty sad if you're the kind of person who really gets attached. (Which seems like a pre-requisite for adopting a sick animal anyway?) *sniffle* Sick animals make me sad.

What does his fur feel like? Does he like people? I wish I weren't allergic.

Accidents happen. Or, his humans didn't appreciate him. Take your pick.
And how did your family manage to hold out this long?
The fact that we already have two cats who hate each other was a big factor.
What does his fur feel like?
Disgustingly dirty. He is NOT pleasant to touch right now. I'm sure it'll be wonderful once he's all cleaned up, though.
Does he like people?
He must have had some bad experiences with people, because he was VERY skittish when he first started coming around. He would come up to our door, cry, and then run when he saw us. He's really friendly now, though, and loves to be petted. (Which is actually a problem right now because he's so dirty none of us really want to touch him. Plus we're trying to be careful about spreading germs to the other cats. Stray cats are complicated.)
