For a sulky mangaroo

I've spent the last couple days carrying my camera around, trying to get good pictures of Pumpkin, but there are two problems. One is the usual problem with taking cat pictures: they tend to move just as you're pushing the button, leaving you with a memory card full of almost good pictures, like this:

The second problem is that he's still fighting an eye infection, so pictures from the front don't always look as good as they would normally:



But since you asked, I tried my best:

If this is not a happy cat, I don't know what is. (Notice his paws, which are busily kneading the carpet. If only pictures had sound so you could hear him purring.)

The sad thing about the last picture is that he's constantly cuddling up to me in even cuter ways, but I can't seem to get a picture of it. *pout*

He was on antibiotics for a week, and we thought it had cleared up, but then it came back, so we had to take him back to the vet and get new medicine. And if it doesn't clear up after a week on this medicine, he'll need yet another medicine, which he'll have to take for two or three weeks. Poor Pumpkin! Luckily he's better behaved than any of our other cats when it comes to getting medicine.

(I'm glad you're acknowledging me, but why no comments in g_defend? Are you prepared to face the wrath of Uekusa?)

It's the cuteness Medusa effect. When Pumpkin turns on his full kitty cuteness, you're immobilized and can't get the photo. Do you carefully split your time among all four (?) kitties so no one gets jealous, or do you just let the cats seek you out when they're feeling social?

I unfriended g_defend a few months ago, when someone was requesting scans and making whole volumes available for download. It was all very dramatic and g_defend hasn't spoken to me since. (But Uekusa understands I won't be part of a community that doesn't have a clear anti-scan policy. I thought about posting something there at the time, to try to shape policy so I wouldn't have to leave, but I really hate...conflict? Losing? Being perceived as self-righteous? All of the above.) I'm glad to see you and spacealien_vamp are re-invigorating the community. It was so much fun in its chatty early months, and I still believe summaries and selective scans are enough to generate and sustain interest in a manga series. Plus, your summaries are hilarious.

Dealing with all the cats is definitely a challenge (though it's really only three of them, since Monique doesn't care whether I pay attention to her or not as long as she gets fed). Wednesday has been extra grumpy now that she knows there's another cat around, but Choco is the one having the hardest time dealing with it, because she's used to getting a LOT of attention. Not that we're not giving her attention now, it's just that she's not used to having any competition. (The evidence of all this conflict is plain to see in my scratch-covered arms. I think Monique was the only cat who didn't wound me today.)

I'm sorry to hear about your rift with g_defend. (And Uekusa won't hold it against you probably.) I admire your principles, but I hope I can convince you to come back anyway, because it really won't be the same without you. Knowing that you won't be around lessens my motivation to continue summaries by approximately 800%. Just between you and me and anyone else who happens upon this thread, I'm not doing this for benefit of the GD fandom. I'm doing it because I love the fun conversations I have with my friends in the comments. In fact, if you really don't want to rejoin the community, I'll just start posting my summaries here, so you won't have an ethical dilemma to face.

The decision to leave g_defend and the children was less abut my principles than it was about my feelings. Hearing about massive downloading makes me sad and queasy. I don't like feeling sad or queasy, and together it's teh suck. So maybe you could post summaries and icons (yay! icons!) there *and* here. There for the continuity and to meet new people (don't you like new people?), here for the happy, unqueasy mangaroo.

I don't like to clog up f-lists with double posts, which is why I figured I would just post summaries here. But they'll still be linked back to the community via Sara's post of summary links. Anything else I post, I'll do just in the community and then link from here so I know you don't miss it. (Unless we're planning a super-secret surprise for you, or spreading nasty rumors in which case my lips will be sealed.)
